National History of The 100 Black Men Movement
The concept of “The 100” originated in 1963 in New York City, when a group of concerned African American men gathered to discuss ways to improve conditions within their community. This visionary group included influential businessmen and leaders such as David Dinkins, Robert Mangum, Dr. William Hayling, Nathaniel Goldston III, Livingston Wingate, Andrew Hatcher, and Jackie Robinson.
On October 2, 1986, representatives from various 100 Black Men chapters met in Washington, D.C. for a final meeting to establish a national organization. Prior to this gathering, discussions were held to define the structure, governance, and model that would provide the most effective resources to support local communities and chapters. At this landmark meeting, the organization’s name, 100 Black Men of America, Inc., was officially unveiled. Attendees also elected four distinguished professional men from within their ranks to serve as the organization’s first founding officers.

The 100 Black Men of Rome-Northwest Georgia, Inc. is an affiliate of 100 Black Men of America, Inc., a national organization uniting all existing “100 Black Men” chapters across the country.
Our local chapter was established in 1994 with the goal of bringing together a group of exceptional men whose collective training, skills, and experiences would foster meaningful progress within the African-American community.
To achieve this vision, our chapter dedicates significant time and resources to the following key areas:
Mentoring
Education
Health and Wellness
Economic Development
These focus areas, along with other community-driven initiatives, form the core of our activities. As an affiliate of the larger “100 Black Men” network, we are united in our commitment to improving the quality of life in our communities and addressing the challenges we all face. The strength of the "100 movement" lies in the diversity of our members and programs.
